I booked a room for three people and received a room with three single beds.
The room overlooking Lake Poroto was decorated with traditional Ainu handicrafts. The tranquil lake, framed by lush greenery, created a picture-perfect scene right outside my window.

Dinner at the restaurant was great. Each dish in the course was a masterpiece. visually stunning and bursting with delicate flavors. The highlight was undoubtedly the locally sourced seafood and fresh vegetables, delivering the pure essence of Hokkaido’s rich culinary heritage. For families traveling with little ones, they are offering a kids plate as well.
There are always activities prepared to learn about the local traditions and experience the culture at Kai. We participated in a workshop where we made Ainu protective charms using plants and herbs native to Hokkaido to ward off bad spirits.
The hot spring at Hoshino Resorts KAI Poroto is a moor hot spring (containing plant-derived organic matter), a rare type of hot spring found in only a few places worldwide.
Soaking in the warm onsen while gazing at the lake made me feel truly refreshed in both body and mind.
Staying at Hoshino Resorts KAI Poroto was more than just an escape-it was a valuable time to appreciate the traditional culture of the Ainu people and the wonders of nature. If you’re seeking a tranquil retreat to reconnect with yourself, this hidden gem in Hokkaido is the perfect destination.
